I was in Omaha, Neb. for the Turkey Day weekend. The boyfriends family tradition is evening shopping after a tryptophan nap – so while they shopped, we went to downtown Omaha, enjoyed the Christmas lights and stopped into Brickway Brewery & Distillery to warm up…even though it was surprisingly warm for Nebraska (still below 32 deg.) in late November.
I tried a handful from Brickway’s “small batch” series including a fantastically balanced Maple Pecan Brown Ale (5% ABV), a surprisingly good Jalapeño-Pineapple Pils (4.8% ABV), in saying that because I love jalapeño beers (pineapple was too subtle), but am not a fan of pilsners, and a delish Drone Fleur Belgian Trippel (11% ABV). In their “session beer” series I enjoyed their roasty, toasty, sweet, creamy Coffee Vanilla Creame Stout (5.2% ABV) for a nice finish…followed up by their “bison series” Imperial Stout (10.3% ABV) with plum and raisin notes with a dry hop finish.
Overall, a cool environment, very different from a Colorado brewery, but I’d go back. Good beers all around.
