The new kid on the block is rather impressive! Broken Compass Brewing is only a few months old. My rule of thumb is to give a new brewery six months before I check them out and review. Broken Compass impressed me so.
I tasted a few including the chocolate coffee stout, coconut porter, IPA and the chili pepper pale ale. To start, those are all my go-to, favorite style beers. The chocolate coffee stout was a well balanced robust stout. The chocolate and coffee are intermingled in perfect harmony. After a day on the slopes I’m gladly pick up a growler and head back to the hot tub in my ski condo.
Coconut porter, sometimes a difficult beer to make. Often too sweet or not well balanced. This beer is made with organic coconut and a great porter mouthfeel to make a well-rounded porter. It’s 4.8% ABV and 28 IBUs.
Now, I love chili beers, so I have to try every one I come across. They used to be hard competition but they’re coming around. This beer is 6.8% ABV and 60 IBU, good start. Second, it’s made with five types of peppers, but won’t burn your face off. Combine those for an easy drinking smooth chili pale ale.
In all, I’ll be back to Broken Compass and am looking forward to trying more of their beers.
