There’s got to be something cool in South Dakota besides Badlands and Rushmore, right? While in Rapid City, South Dakota I checked out Firehouse Brewing Co.
Firehouse Brewing is at a great location in Rapid City at an old Firehouse, hence the name. It has a great outdoor seating area, which is where the fire trucks used to park and a pretty good food menu. However, I was not impress with their beer at all. I sampled the Wilderness Wheat, Brewer’s Golden, Firehouse Red and Smoke Jumper Stout (only ones on tap). While I’m not a fan of wheat’s or golden’s, I did not even enjoy the red or stout. Each one tasted a bit watered down, as well as the root beer.
I would hope that it just wasn’t the brewers’ best batches. They have fantastic names for their Special Beers: Buffalo Bitter, Brown Cow, Eagle Pale Ale, Brown Eyed Girl and more. In addition to a few Seasonals that caught my attention: Pukhead Ale (pumpkin—I heart pumpkin) and Winter Spice.
I really do not enjoy giving less than exceptional reviews on breweries, but I just did not have a taste for Firehouse Brewing Co.

Honesty is the best policy. I think you lose credibility if all you do is post positive reviews. You can't like everything and just cuz it's craft doesnt mean it's good.
When are you coming to SoCal? You need to visit The Bruery in Orange County and of the mecca of beer, San Diego.
