Golden City Brewery

Golden City Brewery, also known as the second largest brewery in Golden, Colo., behind Coors of course. It’s may be smaller in size, but far exceeds excellence in craft beer!

After taking my first ever lead climbing fall, I absolutely needed a delicious brew, my climbing girls and I decided to do a little tasting and share a pitcher (which actually turned in to two!).

Tasting a few of the seasonals and trying their regulars, true to my preference, I’ll have to note my favorites first. Mad Monny’s Brown Ale, it’s light enough to drink all day, but has a malty, chocolaty flavors as well.

Lookout Stout is a well done oatmeal stout. Now I claim I can drink stouts year ’round, and I told that true. The name Lookout is because locals sit outside and ‘lookout’ to the foothills in Golden (have to admit, I did the same!).

Now I love a good IPA, it gets me all sorts of excited. Evolution India Pale Ale at GCB was a smooth IPA with great floral notes, and a perfect amount of hoppy bite.

I have to mention they’re other regulars: Clear Creek Gold Pale Ale and Legendary Red Ale. Both fantastic beers and worth mentioning.

The atmosphere is the best part of GCB. Plenty of casual-put-your-feet-up patio style seating outside, pick-nick tables and walk up ordering. Oh, and of course I mentioned pitchers, which is not typical in breweries.

Next time your in Golden, don’t go to Coors, check out the second largest brewery, Golden City Brewery!
