Deschutes – Green Monster

photo2Deschutes creates some amazing beers! I was lucky enough to get a taste of their Green Monster, which is only available in the brewhouse, at an event in Denver.

The beginning of this delightful sour beer was created when they filled Oregon pinot barrels with a beer that went astray – added Brettanomyces, which is a non-spore genus forming yeast also know as Brett, common in sour beers. After some time – 39 months to be exact, this “monstrosity” of a beer was finished. The Green Monster, 100% barrel aged, 7.3% ABV with slight cherry and dried fruit aroma with a smooth, clean sour finish.

Deschutes, bring on more amazing sours!
